The European Commission this week warned Italy, Spain and Germany that their incumbent telecoms firms’ pricing policies could be breaking Union competition rules

Competition Commissioner Mario Monti said operators in the three countries were charging low subscription prices which made it difficult for competitors to enter the market. The EU executive is concerned that they are compensating for the resulting loss of revenue with relatively high-call charges.
