This is the standard work on the European Parliament since its first edition in 1990, and still written by the original authors. It covers every aspect of how the Parliament is elected, is organised and does its work. The new 7th edition is fully updated to include changes including the impact of Bulgarian and Romanian accession to the EU in 2007, reorganisation of the political groups and numerous other developments.

The authors all have close connections to the European Parliament. Dr Richard Corbett is a British Labour MEP and Deputy Leader of the European Parliamentary Labour Party (EPLP). He is spokesperson on constitutional affairs and EU reform in the European Parliament both for the Labour MEPs and for the whole Socialist Group. Francis Jacobs is Head of the European Parliament's Information Office in Dublin and was immediately before that the Head of Unit responsible for the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Consumer Protection. Dr Michael Shackleton is the Project Manager responsible for the European Parliament's webTV project in the Directorate General for Information. Prior to moving to DG Info, he was the Head of Unit responsible for conciliations and codecision.
