Date: 08/02/1996 to bring reform of the Maastricht Treaty closer to the Union's citizens, couched in language the public understands and deliberately steering clear of complex Euro-jargon. The message - “Our Europe is what we make it” - is being carried throughout the Union on a series of posters in all the EU's official languages, plus Irish, Welsh, Catalan and Luxembourgish. The campaign also involves a planned Internet site, brochures, a youth conference and a competition for young artists. Socialist Group leader Pauline Green, determined to avoid any repetition of post-Maastricht hostility and apathy, explained: “We cannot build Europe without the active support of our people.” |
