More than 700 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from Member States of the European Union (EU) and Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia and Chile are expected to attend the first EU-MERCOSUR Partenariat to be organised in Montevideo between 3 and 5 December 1997. The Partenariat event will provide opportunities for SMEs to meet and explore possibilities for joint ventures and co-operation agreements, and marks an important milestone in EU-MERCOSUR relations.

The EU-Mercosur Partenariat was the first multisectorial event supported by the European Commission in the framework of the AL-Invest programme which offers a range of instruments to promote co-operation between SMEs in Latin America and the European Union and to encourage and facilitate investment and trade in and between both regions. The EU-Mercosur Partenariat brings together, for the first time in a single event, SMEs from the Member States of the European Union and from the Mercosur countries (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay) Bolivia and Chile.
