On 1 May 2008, eight Central and Eastern European countries (the A8) joined the European Union: the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovenia and Slovakia. Workers from these countries were free to come to the United Kingdom to seek and take up employment. This working paper examines the impact of migration from these new Member States on the labour market outcomes of natives in the UK.
