The Lisbon treaty: the EU democratic process in question

Following the ease of ratification of the Lisbon Treaty under President Sarkozy in France, Laurent Dauré and Dominique Guillemin argue that there is now a general climate of political and media approval in which no debate has been raised on the content of the project which had been directly rejected by the French people in 2005. The authors fully expect that the rest of 2008 will be dedicated to national
ratifications and the new European institutions will be in office as early as 1 January 2009.
