The trade and customs law of the European Union, 3rd ed.:
This is a revised and extended version of 'The customs law of the European Economic Community', the second edition of which was published in 1990.

In the introductory chapter the author suggests that a customs union is the most reliable starting point for a lasting and coherent association of independent countries, and that the customs union within the EU is the most significant example today. A basic definition of a customs union is: an association of States in which goods can move as freely as they would within the boundaries of its component units, and which adopts a common policy with regard to products coming from outside the association. The objective of creating a customs union was laid down in the Treaty of Rome and is a fundamental aspect of the European Community. It has proved to be a solid base for the evolution of the European integration process both in a political and economic sense. This major source provides a detailed guide to all aspects of the customs and trade law of the EU. In this latest edition the following new aspects are noted: the latest developments in the internal market; the adoption of the Community Customs Code; the completion of the Uruguay Round of GATT negotiations which resulted in the WTO; and the transformation of the EC into the EU.
