The European Commission, on 7 March 2013, published a proposal for a Regulation on the European Police Office (Europol). This proposal will only apply to the UK if, within three months of its transmission to the Council by the Commission, which took place formally on 30 April 2013, the Government notify the Council that they wish to take part in its adoption and application (opt in to it).

This report concludes that the Government should opt-in to the Regulation so that it can play a full and constructive role in the negotiations.
