...after winning approval for the sanctions from the World Trade Organisation. The penalties, which involve doubling import duties, will hit French, German, Danish and Italian pork exports hardest. Washington has also decided to target sales of luxury foods such as Roquefort cheese, truffles and goose livers. The measures follow a WTO ruling that the EU had failed to prove adequate scientific evidence to justify its ban on imports of beef treated with growth-promoting hormones.
