The Western Balkans in the European Political Community: another waiting room?

Summary:

On 9 May 2022, French President Emmanuel Macron spoke in front the European Parliament to pitch a new European Political Community aimed at strengthening Europe’s security, stability and prosperity and fostering political dialogue and cooperation to address shared issues. The initiative should allow the European Union (EU) to engage more closely with the countries on the EU's waiting list - such as the Western Balkans – but actually it remains unclear what the EPC actually has to offer.
