Summary: Communication presented on 9 October 2019 by the European Commission on the main sticking points relating to the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for the period 2021-2027. Further information: This Communication was published to inform national leaders on the state of play relating to discussions on the Multiannual Financial Framework and the main sticking points which require a decision. The text was put forward ahead of the European Council summit held later in the month. The package of proposals was put forward in May 2018, including a proposal setting out the framework for the multiannual budget. A set of sectoral legislative initiatives were later adopted in the following months. Although work was developed both by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union, negotiations were still required ahead of a compromise agreement, which would allow a new MFF to be in place on time. |
