The EPRS released in January 2015 a document wrote by Martina Prpic on defence and internal security in the European Union. It is highlighted that the protection and surveillance measures implemented had not been able to prevent the terrorist attacks of that month, and that ongoing threats led member states and EU institutions to re-assess their internal security policies. As the Internal Security Strategy for 2010-2014 came to an end, the EU was still in the process of agreeing a new strategy. The European Commission had also signalled in its work programme that a new European Agenda on Security was in the making. |
