Trade Commissioner Sir Leon Brittan has welcomed US President Bill Clinton’s support for a global round of international trade negotiations

Brittan said the EU had been campaigning for a Millennium Round for three years and it was “heartening to find our efforts meeting success in such a crucial quarter”. Until recently, the US administration had opposed the EU's demands for comprehensive talks, calling instead for a sectoral approach as a quicker way of achieving liberlisation goals.
