Trichet urges strengthening of monetary union

After a speech by the former head of the European Central Bank before the Peterson Institute of International Economics in Washington in May 2012, EurActiv reported Jean-Claude Trichet's view that Europe could strengthen its monetary union by giving European politicians the power to declare a sovereign state bankrupt and take over its fiscal policy.
