Background and further information:

Three sub-themes fed into this discussion:

+ Reinforcing innovation, job creation and social fairness in the Multiannual Financial Framework;
+ New forms of work: challenges and opportunities for employment and social dialogue;
+ Economic and social convergence to strengthen growth and resilience.

The European Pillar of Social Rights was launched in April 2017, setting out 20 key principles and rights to support labour markets and welfare systems. It was primarily conceived for the Eurozone but applicable to all member states wishing to be part of it. The principles and rights enshrined in the Pillar were structured around three categories: equal opportunities and access to the labour market, fair working conditions and social protection and inclusion.

The Pillar was jointly proclaimed by the three main institutions of the European Union in November 2017, during the Social Summit for Fair Jobs and Growth.

+ Communication on monitoring the implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights, March 2018

A meeting of the Tripartite Social Summit was held on 21 March 2018, under the theme of 'Delivering on the European Pillar of Social Rights'.
