From the 19 July 2009 the existing indoor smoking ban in Turkey in public transport and offices has been extended to cafes, bars and restaurants. Article sees this as a revolutionary step in Turkey. However, the step is favoured by Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkey's ascetic prime minister and likely to be enforced.

On the 18 August 2009 hundreds of Turks took to the streets of Ankara to protest against the ban on smoking in bars and restaurants.
