Former members of the separatist Kurdistan Workers’ party went on trial in a Turkish court on the 17 June 2010 as Turkish soldiers fighting the rebel group returned from their first cross-border land foray into northern Iraq in more than two years.

The escalation in violence came after the PKK formally scrapped a unilateral ceasefire, claiming it was responding to Turkish military and political attacks.
