Twentieth-century Europe: a brief history:

'Twentieth-century Europe: a brief history' is intended to meet the need for a concise yet comprehensive survey of the significant themes of European history during a century of both achievement and barbarism. The writing style is clear and straightforward, and maps, tables, illustrations and photographs enhance the text and the reader's understanding. The approach is chronological and divided into four parts: the first two parts cover the period up to the Second World War and parts three and four cover 1939 to the present day. Included at the end of each part is a list of suggested films and books to enable the student or general reader to further their interest. Although the book is substantially a political history, social and cultural themes are also explored, particularly in the period following the Great War.

Michael D. Richard's earlier volume, 'Europe 1900-1980: a brief history' was the model for this book, but this is not simply an updated volume. The book represents a careful reconsideration of the twentieth century in the light of events since the end of the 1980s.
