UMP rule change set to boost Sarkozy’s presidential ambitions

French Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy was expected on 6 December 2005 to persuade his party, the UMP, to introduce primary elections to select their candidate, a move which would create an important advantage for Mr Sarkozy in his efforts to win the 2007 Presidential election.
