The United Nations has accused the Catholic Church of covering up cases of child abuse committed by clergy and church workers. The Committee on the Rights of the Child calls on the Vatican to ensure that children are better protected against abuse, and to subject the perpetrators to harsher punishment. Pope Francis must now act accordingly, some commentators write. Others see the criticism of the Church as implausible and exaggerated.
