Date: 09/09/04 UNICE, the European federation of employers' organizations, today launches a raft of recommendations for the next political cycle of the EU, 2004-09, calling for a renewed commitment to competitiveness. "The European system has not been able to deliver, whereas other developed economies, particularly the US, have done much better in terms of growth, new jobs and therefore more prosperity for their citizens," say the UNICE leaders. In a letter to the new Commission, the new Parliament and the national governments, the heads of UNICE's member organizations call for "a clear strategy focused on competitiveness, realistic in its objectives and with a strong commitment to implement decisions already taken". European citizens must be persuaded, they argue, that "better competitiveness is the only way to more growth". UNICE has produced a near-50 page report with recommendations on particular policy areas, identifying "challenges for the European economy". UNICE, the European Federation of Employers' Organisations, has published a report, 'Business Vision for Europe. Growth, Jobs and Prosperity' with policy recommendations for the 2004-09 political cycle of the EU, calling for a renewed commitment to competitiveness, 9 September 2004. |
