warned this week that Washington would “not tolerate” any requirement to segregate genetically-modified crops from their conventional counterparts, saying the debate over the safety of genetically-modified organisms (GMOs) was “shaping up to be the battle royal of 21st century world agriculture”. The Commission is considering whether to require the separation of GMOs throughout the production chain. The US exports millions of ecu worth of soya and maize to the EU every year, some of which is genetically modified.
