Date: 24/09/1998 Some EU officials were hard-pressed to report on the outcome of a meeting of the Union's scientific committee last week which discussed a key study into possible less-hazardous alternatives to white asbestos. Why? A quick glance at the business which the Commission dealt with that day provides the answer. Quite simply, the committee meeting had the misfortune of falling on the same day that the Commission cleared the impotence drug Viagra for sale in the EU. “All everyone cares about today is Viagra,” said one, unable to suppress a chuckle. |
