The conference was held in Dublin until 2015. In 2016, it was moved to Lisbon. Analysts considered the city could become the next big hub for technology and innovation in Europe, thanks to a dynamic and expanding startup sector.

The company behind the Summit was founded by Paddy Cosgrave, David Kelly and Daire Hickey.

Web Summit is a technology conference held annually since 2009. It focuses on internet technology and atendees range from Fortune 500 companies to smaller tech companies.
