Axel Weber announced on the 11 February 2011 that he would step down as President of Germany’s Bundesbank on 30 April 2011.

Mr Weber had been considered one of the favourites to succeed Jean-Claude Trichet as head of the European Central Bank in 2011. However, his departure from the Bundesbank means that this is no longer likely.
