The Movement for European Reform (MER) was launched by British Conservative Party Leader David Cameron and Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek, Leader of the Civic Democrats, in July 2006.

It is a pan-European campaign bringing together individuals, organisations and political parties who share a commitment to open markets, a Europe of nation states and the importance of the Atlantic relationship. It wants the EU to be a force for good in the 21st century. That means EU reform.

Globalisation presents the EU with opportunities as well as challenges. To be successful, the EU must recognise the limits of its powers, and become more open, outward-looking and flexible. Crucially, it should aspire to do less, and do it better. It must regain people’s trust by demonstrating its value through actions rather than words.
