The author argued that it was high time for the EU to move beyond ‘stabilocracy’ and stand up to ethnic nationalist kleptocrat political leaders in the states of the Western Balkans.

The EU cannot assume that business as usual will provide stability in the Balkans. That wwould require marrying the accession tools with economic ambition and political clarity.
