It was a nice try, but it didn't quite work. Jacques Chirac wanted the Bosnia peace deal dubbed the “Elysée Treaty” and who can blame him?

Not everyone's home gets a mention in the history books. Besides, posterity is good for a nation's ego, and if Dayton, Ohio, is being immortalised as the place where the deal was struck, why not the French presidential pad where it will actually be signed? But it is not to be.

The French government was this week forced to backtrack and announce that the accord would instead be known as “The Peace Agreement on Bosnia-Herzogovina”.
