A former Swiss banker Rudolf Elmer planned to disclose secret account information to WikiLeaks on the 17 January 2011. Rudolf Elmer was one of the first people to give controversial data to the website, releasing internal bank documents in 2007.

On the 19 January 2011 Rudolf Elmer was arrested for breaching banking secrecy by giving data to WikiLeaks, just hours after he was found guilty of another secrecy offence.
