Prime ministers from Poland and the Czech Republic agreed in September 2016 to keep supporting a gas interconnection project between their two countries, despite continued doubts about implementation.

The 'Stork 2' project was designed as part of the so-called North-South gas interconnection which should contribute to the development of natural gas markets in central and eastern Europe, bringing increased security of supplies and diversifying supply routes.

While the project had an initial conclusion date for 2019, there had been reports the Polish side was seeking a moratorium on it due to other projects involving Russian gas in the region.
