The World Trade Organisation (WTO) issued on the 5 July 2011 the reports of the panel that had examined complaints by the United States, the European Union and Mexico regarding 'China — Measures Related to the Exportation of Various Raw Materials' (D394, D395 and D398).

The WTO ruled against China’s practice of limiting its exports of raw materials, handing a victory to the US and the European Union in a closely watched trade dispute.

'This is a clear verdict for open trade and fair access to raw materials. It sends a strong signal to refrain from imposing unfair restrictions to trade and takes us one step closer to a level playing field for raw materials', said EU Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht.
