Date: 17/09/1998 Its official! European Commission employees get paid too much. Who said so? None other than Environment Commissioner Ritt Bjerregaard's spokesman Peter Jørgensen when he was briefing journalists the other day. The reporters were getting a little bit too inquisitive for Jørgensen's liking about some forthcoming environmental negotiations between the Commission, Japan and the US, and the Danish spin doctor insisted he could say no more. “I get paid an indecently high salary. One of my jobs is to decide when we want to talk about something and when we don't,” he said, before deciding on the latter. |
