Zero immigration ‘not an option’

The Commission presented a far-reaching and important Communication on Immigration, Integration and Employment on the 3 June 2003. This reviews integration policies nationally and at EU level; looks at the role of immigration in the context of ageing; and suggests ways to promote integration for immigrants. On the same day the European Commission also adopted a communication on the development of a common policy on illegal immigration, smuggling and trafficking of human beings, external borders and the return of illegal residents.
