In December 2009, the outgoing Swedish Presidency of the European Union’s Council of Ministers wrote that around 80% of work on the AIFM directive had already been achieved.

It is now up to the new Spanish EU Presidency to resolve these remaining issues and to reconcile the positions of the European Parliament and the Member States. Spain issued a paper outlining outstanding issues in January 2010.
