Endorsement of informal agreement on EU School Fruit, Vegetables and Milk Scheme

The European Parliament's agriculture committee endorsed the informal agreement reached with the Council of the European Union on 10 January 2016 as regards a proposal establishing the EU School Fruit, Vegetables and Milk Scheme. The approval was confirmed by the plenary session on 8 March.

The draft law puts more emphasis on educating children in healthy eating, increases the budget and merges into one the separate schemes for milk and fruit in schools.

The proposal was put forward by the European Commission in January 2014. An informal agreement between the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union on this draft law was reached on 10 December 2015. The Counil's Special Committee on Agriculture approved it on 16 December.
