The European Council president announced on 18 February 2016 that a meeting had been scheduled for March 2016 between Turkey and the European Union to discuss the Joint Action Plan signed between the two sides to stem the migration crisis.

Leaders at the summit concluded that the migration flow between Turkey and Greece remained too high. Members of the Visegrad group said further border restrictions would be implemented unless they saw results on the Turkish side.
