Policymakers hailed Russia’s formal accession to the World Trade Organisation on the 16 December 2011, saying it would benefit European countries and make Russia a more competitive economy. The final documents on Russia’s joining were signed in Geneva on the 16 December 2011, formally marking the end of Moscow’s 18-year quest for membership in the trade body. Russia would have six months to ratify its membership. It would become a member a month after ratification. Russia finally joined the WTO on the 22 August 2012 as the 156th member. |
