Subsidiaries of Philip Morris International(PMI) filed papers on the 27 June 2014 seeking review of the EU’s Tobacco Products Directive (2014/40/EU) by the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU).

EUObserver reported that PMI wanted to challenge the new EU rules on tobacco to see if it could get the stricter labelling requirements changed.

The Marlboro manufacturer said on the 27 June 2014 the EU’s new tobacco products directive 'appears to ban truthful and non-misleading claims on the packaging of tobacco products'.
