UN: Cyprus reunification talks to resume

The leaders of ethnically-split Cyprus agreed to restart peace talks on 15 May 2015 in a bid to reunify the island. The election of moderate leftist Turkish Cypriot Mustafa Akinci in Presidential elections in the TRNC in April 2015 had raised hopes of a breakthrough after 40 years of division.

Positive reports emerged from the meeting on the 15 May 2015. However, commentators cautioned against premature optimism.
