On 4 February 2016, the European Commission released the Winter 2016 Economic Forecast.

The Commission's winter forecast showed that the overall growth outlook had changed little since the autumn but that the risk that growth could turn out worse than forecast had risen, mainly as a result of external factors. In the euro area, growth was projected to increase to 1.7% in 2016 from 1.6% the year before, and to climb to 1.9% in 2017. EU economic growth was forecast to remain stable at 1.9% in 2016 and rise to 2.0% next year.
