Luxembourg drops legal challenge to EU request for tax info

Luxembourg's Prime Minister Xavier Bettel announced on 18 December 2014 that his country planned to withdraw two court challenges against the European Commission and was set to start handing over past tax rulings.

Mr Bettel stated that he would comply with the demands - after suing the European Commission over the issue - because other member states were also now required to provide similar details on the discounted tax deals.

The decision followed the release of revelations of controversial corporate tax avoidance schemes involving the country's authorities over the past two decades, the so-called LuxLeaks [click here for more information].
