The European Parliament's civil liberties held a debate on 22 March 2017 regarding the state of rule of law in Poland. The meeting was attended by the European Commission's First Vice-President Frans Timmermans. The committee discussed the progress of the investigation procedure and possible further developments, including the advisability of otherwise triggering the Article 7 of the Treaty against the country. The Commission published in December 2016 a set of recommendations on this topic, adding to the initial Recommendation from July 2016. In February 2017, the Polish government considered the case closed. |
