Assessment report of the Member States’ national Roma strategic frameworks

Communication adopted by the European Commission on 9 January 2023, reviewing the national Roma strategic frameworks across the European Union (EU).

The European Commission adopted a new EU Roma Strategic Framework for Equality, Inclusion and Participation in October 2020. It highlighted the need to strengthen the commitment at EU and national level, based on a paradigm shift from socio-economic integration towards a more comprehensive approach to promoting equality, inclusion and the participation of Roma. Member States endorsed this approach through the adoption of a Council Recommendation in March 2021.

Both documents urged EU countries to develop national strategic frameworks by September 2021 and to share them with the Commission. This Communication takes stock of those strategic frameworks assesses the commitments made by the Member States and provides guidance on any improvements needed.
