Recommendation (EU) 2021/1970 - adopted by the European Commission on 10 November 2021 - on a common European data space for cultural heritage.
The purpose of this Recommendation is to pave the way for a common European data space for cultural heritage, thereby helping cultural heritage institutions to accelerate their digitisation and preservation efforts, and to seize the opportunities created by the digital transformation. This Recommendation encourages Member States to put in place appropriate frameworks to enhance the sector’s recovery and transformation and to help cultural heritage institutions become more resilient in the future. It covers all types of cultural heritage (tangible, intangible, natural, born digital), including all the categories of cultural heritage at risk.
This Recommendation was put forward by the European Commission on 10 November 2021, in the framework of its European Strategy for Data. It followed up on the assessment of Recommendation 2011/711/EU concerning online accessibility of cultural material and digital preservation. It was published in the Official Journal on 12 November 2021.
