European Union Foreign Ministers warned Ukraine’s leadership on the 3 September 2011 that integration with the 27-nation EU could be jeopardised by a 'show trial' against opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko that is expected to wrap up later in September 2011.

Ukraine was on a potential collision course with the European Union after it pressed ahead with the controversial trial of Yulia Tymoshenko, the former prime minister and Orange Revolution leader on the 27 September 2011. A Ukrainian judge defied international pressure to drop the case when he reopened proceedings after a two-week pause.
