France has come under the spotlight in August 2011 as markets hunt for the next downgrade candidate in the wake of the US ratings cut by Standard & Poor’s on the 5 August 2011.

Nevertheless, French officials insisted there is no immediate danger of a downgrade, and S&P reiterated on the 8 August 2011 that France had a 'well thought out budget strategy' that justified its triple A rating and stable outlook.
