German Chancellor Angela Merkel invited France's President Emmanuel Macron as well as ministers from both countries to a meeting held at Schloss Meseberg on 19 June 2018. Together they worked on preparations for the European Council later in the month, and on finding solutions for the issues affecting the European Union.
The Meseberg Declaration included statements on foreign and security policy, the European migration and asylum policy, the future of the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU), as well as competition policy.
