General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) enters into application across the European Union

Summary:

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into effect in the European Union on 25 May 2018. It was put forward aiming to standardise data privacy in the EU and strengthen consumer rights.

The move produced great media and specialist interest. While some commentators saw the European Union as a pioneer in data privacy, others stated the regulation could end up hurting those it is meant to protect.
