Germany's Federal Constitutional Court announced on 7 December 2015 it intended to start proceedings against the National Democratic Party (NDP), with three hearings scheduled for early 2016. With the beginning of proceedings formally confirmed, it became more likely that the Court would decide to ban the party, as previous attempts to outlaw it have stumbled at this stage.

The Court was expected to deliberate on the Federal Council's (Bundesrat) request to ban the part on 1-3 March 2016.
