Germany to send troops to Ukraine

Martin Schäfer, Germany's Foreign Office spokesman, stated on 6 October 2014 that the country would be available to help the OSCE with their mission in Eastern Ukraine, in the context of a joint Franco-German mission to support the ceasefire that organisation is trying to put in place.

Plans for a Franco-German operation went back to the NATO Summit in September. A joint fact-finding mission led by the two countries had already taken place in eastern Ukraine between 16 and 20 September, said the spokesman.
